CSX Transportation is the newcomer. After the Surface Transportation Board cleared the way for the CSX - NS takeover of CONRAIL in July, 1998, the giants moved quickly. In August of 1998 they excercised their right, and the CONRAIL reign was over.
CSX will operate the ex-CONRAIL two track , east-west main line through Dunkirk. They will also get the yard near Middle Road and a short branch line to Fredonia.
